Middle School

Grades 5 to 10

The middle school of BHIS-K is the place where students are transitioned from young learners to informed and matured learners who will step into senior and senior secondary school to prepare for their lives after school.

The middle school curriculum follows the CBSE pattern of education where students learn English, Tamil or Hindi (2nd Language), 3rd Language, Mathematics, Sciences, Social Studies, ICT and Value Education. However, the approach of the Primary School where an integrated method of 21st century core learnings is taken to the next higher level in the middle school. The continued strengthening of language and numeracy helps the child build the love for science and social sciences.

We believe that every learning can be related to the world outside and in middle school we help the children learn by experiencing their surroundings with the learnings. Every subject will have several projects and activities to demonstrate the learning area and not only learn individually but as a group.

The middle school is also a place to build upon the values that a child gathers from parents and elders and teachers in the school so as to practice them with their peer group of friends. Value Education is emphasized in the middle school and children are assessed not only in academics but also the values that they practice in school.

Assessment of students are further enhanced by using projects and portfolio assessments so that they learn not as children but as adults managing the performance of a group and not only themselves.

Zero Shadow Day is a fascinating natural occurrence that unveils the beauty of Earth’s axial tilt. Happening twice a year for regions between +23.5 and -23.5 degrees latitude, this phenomenon demonstrates the Sun being directly overhead at noon, resulting in no shadows being cast on the ground. This celestial event is intricately linked to Earth’s tilt of 23.5 degrees, causing the Sun’s declination to match the latitude of these areas during Uttarayan and Dakshinayan. On 18th August 2023, students from grades 3 to 12 gathered at the football ground to witness this mesmerizing spectacle. As the Sun reached its zenith, their shadows gradually diminished, sparking excitement and curiosity among the students. It was a valuable educational experience, allowing them to grasp the fascinating connection between Earth’s tilt and the absence of shadows during this unique event.

Taking students beyond the classroom is like unclipping their wings. By taking learning beyond the classroom, you will find dozens of opportunities to make learning concepts, real and relevant by putting them into a more realistic context. Many concepts which seem too difficult to get a grasp of in the classroom are a lot easier to understand in the big wide world when they are set in context, and when the children are more engaged and motivated to understand and learn better.
